Ionizing & Non-Ionising Radiation

MRI is a technique that produces topographic images by means of magnetic fields and radiofrequency waves.

The ionizing radiations:

  • Alpha
  • Beta
  • Gamma
  • X-Rays

The non-lonizing radiations are:

  • Radio frequency waves
  • UV rays
  • Microwaves

Alpha and beta rays are particulate radiation (particles) whereas gamma and x- rays are electromagnetic rays. All electromagnetic waves have a constant velocity of 3x108 m/s and no mass.
